Meaningful Ways to Use Tree Seedlings as Personalized Wedding Favors

Weddings are a huge milestone, full of meaningful moments. Couples want their wedding favors to feel just as thoughtful and memorable as the day itself. That’s one reason why we’ve seen couples choose living tree seedlings as wedding favors, bridal shower favors, and bridesmaid gifts.

Over the years, we have been honored to be part of weddings across the country. Brides, grooms, wedding planners, and families are often excited by the idea of giving guests something living, a gift that grows long after the celebration ends.

Tree seedling wedding favors create a lasting memory. Guests plant them at home and think back to your wedding for years to come.

Why Tree Seedling Make for Great Personalized Wedding Favors

Each year we see orders come in for Little Saps bulk seedlings for weddings. What we love about our bulk seedlings is that they carry so many meanings. They’re memorable, eco-friendly, beautiful to display and suitable for so many wedding styles ( rustic, mountain, garden, modern, woodland, elegant, or destination weddings).

What is also so special about our seedlings is that they are easy to personalize with tags or a custom message. Depending on the level of involvement you want in personalizing your wedding favors we offer:

They also work well for couples trying to create an experience that feels personal rather than disposable.

Creative Ways to Use Tree Seedlings During Wedding Celebrations

Wedding seedlings can be incorporated into much more than just the reception itself.

Wedding Reception Favors

Tree seedlings make beautiful traditional wedding favors. We’ve seen couples:

  • Place them directly on guest plates or napkins

  • Use them as part of table centerpieces

  • Create a “Take a Tree” favor station with signage

  • Pair them with escort cards or seating charts

Many couples create personalized tags with the wedding date or a favorite quote. Some even include a note encouraging guests to plant the tree in honor of the marriage and watch it grow over time.

Bridal Shower Party Favors

Tree seedlings also make thoughtful bridal shower favors. They work especially well for:

  • Garden-themed bridal showers

  • Outdoor brunches

  • Spring and summer celebrations

  • Mountain or nature-inspired events

Because bridal showers are typically smaller and more intimate, they create a wonderful opportunity to give guests something especially meaningful. A tree seedling naturally becomes part of the conversation bygiving the bride, host, or family a chance to share why they chose a living gift and what it symbolizes. That personal connection often makes the experience even more memorable for guests.

Bridesmaid Proposal Gifts

Many brides include a tree seedling as part of a bridesmaid proposal box alongside candles, handwritten notes, jewelry, or self-care items. The tree becomes a symbol of friendship, growth, and the years shared together.

Engagement Parties & Welcome Bags

Tree seedlings can also be incorporated into:

  • Engagement party favors

  • Wedding welcome bags

  • Rehearsal dinners

  • Thank-you gifts for family members or helpers

  • Post-wedding gifts shipped afterward to special guests who traveled or helped with the wedding

Tree Planting Wedding Ceremony Ideas

Some couples choose to include a ceremonial tree planting during the wedding itself.

This can symbolize:

  • Two families joining together

  • Growth and new beginnings

  • Building a life together

  • Putting down roots

A small evergreen tree can later be planted at the couple’s home as a living reminder of the wedding day.

“My parents planted a tree during their wedding in the summer of 1977. They said it was one of the most meaningful and memorable parts of the day.” - Carrie McClain, founder of Little Saps

Budget-Friendly Wedding Favor Ideas

One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding favors is that you need one for every guest.

In reality, not every guest takes a favor home.

For tree seedling favors, a good rule of thumb is often: One seedling per household or family unit.

This can make living favors surprisingly budget-friendly while still creating a beautiful visual display at the reception.

Another budget-conscious option is purchasing plain seedlings and adding your own packaging, tags, or ribbons for a DIY personalized look.

Personalization Wedding Favors Ideas

Couples often personalize their tree favors with:

  • Wedding dates

  • Guest names

  • Thank-you messages

  • Favorite quotes or Bible verses

  • Custom tags

  • Wedding colors and ribbon

  • Monograms or initials

Popular tag ideas include:

  • “Let Love Grow”

  • “Watch Our Love Grow”

  • “Thank You for Helping Us Grow”

  • “Planted in Celebration of Our Wedding”

Frequently Asked Questions About Tree Seedlings as Custom Wedding Favors

How long will Little Saps tree seedlings last before the event?

Little Saps trees include a substantial soil plug. They are not bare root seedlings (which typically need to be planted immediately) nor do they have the small, thin soil plugs often found in trees grown in small trays. The larger soil plug helps the seedlings retain moisture, travel well, and remain healthy much longer before planting.

Because our seedlings are wrapped in protective packaging with a small plastic bag around the soil plug, they can last quite a while before planting when cared for properly. The soil plug and protective wrapping help keep the trees hydrated leading up to the event, making them especially well-suited for weddings, bridal showers, and destination celebrations.

Every order includes care instructions, and if your seedlings will arrive a week or more before the wedding or celebration, we typically provide additional longer-term care guidance as well.

Can Little Saps travel on an airplane?

Yes. Little Saps seedlings generally travel well on airplanes within the United States. Please note that we do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii.

Can Little Saps be shipped internationally?

No. Because the seedlings include soil plugs, international shipping restrictions typically prevent them from traveling internationally, even to Canada.

Do guests need a yard to keep their tree?

Not at all. A yard is not required.

Many evergreen seedlings can live happily in containers for years. Guests can keep them on:

  • Porches

  • Patios

  • Decks

  • Apartment balconies

Are Little Saps house plants?

No. Evergreen seedlings are outdoor trees and should be kept outside year-round.

During winter, smaller seedlings may appreciate some protection during extreme cold temperatures, but they still need natural seasonal changes and winter dormancy triggered by cold weather in order to remain healthy.

A Wedding Favor Guests Will Actually Remember

Wedding favors are most meaningful when they tell part of your story.

For couples who love nature, mountains, gardening, sustainability, or simply meaningful gifts, living tree seedlings create something guests genuinely remember and appreciate.

Years later, a growing tree can still remind someone of your wedding day — and that’s what makes it special.
