How We Started
Little Saps was born at Hart-T-Tree Farms, a 50-year-old family-owned Christmas tree farm in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains.
When her father built several greenhouses on the farm to experiment with growing Fraser Firs from seed, Carrie McClain stepped in to help care for the tiny saplings. Already a mother, she felt an immediate connection.
In those baby trees, Carrie saw something profound: the awe of something so small, destined to grow tall and strong. For a brief moment, she could hold something immense in her hands: a reminder of the miracle in new beginnings and the resilience it takes to grow.
That was the spark. Carrie always loved Christmas trees, but the idea of sharing a living, rooted tree - a symbol of love, hope, wisdom, perseverance, and courage - planted a bigger vision. She founded Little Saps as a way to help people mark life’s most meaningful moments with something lasting. A gift that grows.

Founder’s Note
“I started Little Saps with the idea that our little trees would go out into the world carrying messages of hope, joy, comfort, encouragement, love, and healing. My dream is that these messages touch the hearts of those that receive them and that they absorb all the love, warmth, and goodwill that is sent their way.
That is why we take such care with each Little Sap we package. We take time to make each gift special, because we want the gift recipient to feel the love and thought that went into each gift tree.
When we believe that others love and care for us, when we believe they are rooting for us, when we believe that they think we can do it, we are able to conquer whatever life throws at us with enthusiasm, courage, and creativity.
